Rockmart Police cruiser totaled in morning wreck in Cedartown

A Rockmart Police Department cruiser was totaled in a wreck this morning, July 6, and the officer driving was treated and released after being struck by a work truck, per the Rockmart Police.

Rockmart Police Chief Randy Turner said the wreck at Girard Avenue and Cave Spring Road occurred this morning when Officer Corey Gray ran into the truck owned by Bird Electric, who ran the stop sign at the intersection.

Gray had no time to respond to the truck coming into his lane of travel, Turner noted.

The cruiser was severely damaged and likely will be totaled.

Turner said Gray was treated for minor injuries and released. The driver of the work truck was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol was called upon to investigate the wreck since it involved a Rockmart Police officer.

Check back for further information from GSP as it becomes available.
