Two men were charged in Rockmart this week amid an ongoing investigation that began last year involving drugs and gang activity happening in the city limits, according to police.
Police charged Jatavion Stocks, 20, of Rockmart and Marcus Allen Rineheart, 23, of Rockmart, after a traffic stop on Monday afternoon, March 24.
An officer at the time determined enough probable cause to make a search, according to officials involved in the case, and found three bottles of promethazine hydrochloride – known on the street as a drug called Lean. During the stop, Rineheart attempted to pour out the bottles into a backpack, but was unsuccessful.
Neither Rinehart or Stocks would take responsibility for the drugs, and so both were charged.
Police were able to obtain a search warrant for Stocks’ residence following the Monday arrest and discovered additional narcotics including marijuana, THC vape pens and psilocybin mushrooms.
The investigation into the drugs continues, and additional charges may be pending per Rockmart Police.
Prior to the current incident, police had previously determined through investigative efforts that both were either associated with or currently active members of a street gang in the area.
Rinehart and Stocks were both denied bond on felony charges including possession of a Schedule V controlled substance, possession of drugs with intent to distribute, and a criminal street gang charge. Rineheart also faced a charge for tampering with evidence.
Stocks faced additional drug possession charges for what officers found in his house during their search, and a pair of misdemeanors for traffic violations leading to the initial stop on Monday afternoon, and a misdemeanor charge for possession and use of drug related objects.
