Rockmart man arrested on drug charges after DTF investigation into trafficking into Floyd County Prison

A Rockmart man remains in jail with bond denied on felony and misdemeanor charges after an investigation found that he was selling drugs to a member of the Floyd County Prison work detail.

Christopher Ray Parker, 42, of a Rockmart address, was fired following his arrest from the Public Works department after the former member of the paving crew was pulled over last week on his way to work and found with methamphetamines in his vehicle.

According to police, Parker was selling the drugs to an inmate working on the paving crew while serving time at the Floyd County Prison. An investigation found Parker was involved, and he was stopped before he could sell more to the inmate.

The Polk County Drug Task Force worked in cooperation with the Floyd County Prison to determine who was responsible for the trafficking going into the facility.

Parker was charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, the sale, manufacture, delivery or possession of dangerous drugs, possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and traffic charges of tag lights required and no brake lights or working turn signals.

He has remained in custody since his arrest on Oct. 22.
