A woman who struck a pickup truck in a parking lot was later jailed and released for a hit and run, telling police she only fled because of warrants she had out for her arrest in another county.
Jalisha Marshay Bell, 31, of Cedartown address in a Polk County Police report, but of a Riverdale address for the Sheriff’s Office, was jailed and later released on a $850 bond for a single misdemeanor charge of hit and run – duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident.
Polk County Police reported to the scene of the wreck at the Fun Wheels Skate Center on Friday night around 10:50 p.m., when Bell behind the wheel of a white Ford Fusion was reported to have struck the back of a Ford F-150 and fled the scene when the driver of the truck told Bell they were contacting police.
Bell was then found at the intersection of Collard Valley Road and Houseal Street in a traffic stop by Cedartown Police. When Polk County officers arrived, reports stated that Bell had already admitted to hitting the truck in the parking lot at Fun Wheels Skate Center, and fled because she had arrest warrants through Floyd County.
Additionally, officers noted that the smell of marijuana was coming from her car and asked her to step out and allow them to search. They didn’t find anything in the car, and when they patted her down eventually found a blunt in her pocket.
Instead of charging her further, they allowed her to destroy it at the scene.
Police heard back from the driver of the F-150 and noted that they wished to press charges for the hit and run. PCPD was sought for a priority call and turned Bell over to Cedartown Police, who ultimately took her to jail.
Bell was later released on the single misdemeanor charge on an $850 bond.
