A woman was arrested on Tuesday after she told officers she had a couple of beers after a fender bender in a family member’s driveway, but her blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal level per Polk County Police reports.
Teresa Ann Baker, 44, was taken into custody after performing field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer, which reported her blood alcohol level at the time at a .132.
According to what she told police, Baker had come over to a relative’s house on Collard Valley Road on the evening of September 19 to help with an automobile repair. During the visit, she told officers that she had two beers. When the work was done and she was leaving, she began to back out and struck another vehicle while a child was in the car.
Police reports noted that she had slurred speech and other indications that she was intoxicated when they arrived, and she was unable to pass several of the field sobriety tests she agreed to take. The report did note that Baker told officers she did not have her contacts in, and had only taken some of the medication she is prescribed prior to the incident.
Baker spent only a day in jail and was released on a $3,102 bond.
