A Cedartown-area man and woman were both booked and remained in custody as of Saturday night on drug charges after officers were tipped off that something was up when a green straw fell from a pocket during a search, according to reports.
Polk County Police on Thursday arrested Nathan Dobbins, 41, and Amanda Lynn Johnson, 43, when the pair were pulled over in a traffic stop for no tag lights and speeding on Prior Station Road.
When the reporting officer came up to the car and explained the stop, Dobbins told officers that he “was buying the vehicle and that it wasn’t his” and later when consenting to a search of the car and later attempting to pull that permission back, told police that “he had just recently cleaned the vehicle out and nothing should be in it.”
Officers were tipped off that something was likely inside the vehicle when a straw that police alleged had a “white crystal like residue inside” consistent with methamphetamine. That straw yielded a “brown change purse in the trunk area” where police found two pipes and a bag they suspected had meth inside.
Both were then taken onward to the Polk County Jail and booked on charges during the late night traffic stop.
Dobbins was booked into custody on Thursday and has remained there on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of tag lights required, suspended registration and possession and use of drug-related objects.
Bond was denied for Dobbins, who had been arrested earlier in the month for a theft by deception charge. He had been jailed and previously released on August 2 on a $5,000 bond.
Johnson was also charged with a felony for possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge for possession and use of drug-related objects. She is being held on a $7,500 bond.
