A Rockmart man was jailed over the weekend and remained there as of Monday night after he was taken into custody when police found evidence of methamphetamine inside of his car following a traffic stop in his driveway, according to reports.
The Polk County Jail reported that Gregory Scott Elliott, 45, of 137 Sycamore St., Rockmart, remained in jail on a $10,000 bond when he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession and use of drug-related objects, driving while license suspended or revoked and failure to maintain lane during when officers spotted him swerving on Friday night, November 26 not far from Elliott’s home.
When he finally stopped for officers on patrol in the Selective Enforcement Unit in a Cadillac CTS, Elliott was reported to have been frustrated by the traffic stop itself and police believed he was hiding something.
Police reported that after he admitted he was driving while his license was suspended, he was asked to step out of the car and searched and admitted to having three knives on his person. Police also found the cap of a hypodermic needle, and Elliott admitted he had taken narcotics “a few days before,” per the report.
Officers with probable cause searched his car, and found a digital scale with meth residue on it, plastic baggies with meth residue, and a few pieces of crystal meth in the front passenger seat.
While being questioned after waiving his Miranda rights, Elliott admitted that the scales were his but knew nothing of the baggies and the piece of meth on the front seat. He told officers that he had given a ride to another individual he didn’t name earlier in the day, and it might have been theirs.
Despite that, officers took him into custody and charged him with possession and other offenses because of the scales and the traffic offenses.
He was taken to jail without further incident.
