REPORT: Teen tried to run from police jailed after spike strips stop car

Jetci Diana Chicas Mendoza

Polk County Police arrested a teen early Saturday morning after a chase ended in front of the Polk County Water Authority office with her arrest, according to reports.

Officers arrested Jetci Diana Chicas Mendoza, 18, of a Cedartown address, after her vehicle was finally stopped on Highway 278 in front of the Water Authority just past Cedartown High School.

Per the report, police attempted to stop Chicas Mendoza when they spotted her in a black Chevrolet Camaro driving under the speed limit on Highway 278 near Wheeler Ford Road. When the officer tried to pass, the Camaro swerved into their lane and nearly hit the patrol vehicle. The Camaro then failed to maintain its lane several times before the officer attempted to pull Chicas Mendoza over.

After ignoring the lights and sirens on the car, PCPD called Cedartown Police for help to deploy spike strips to stop the chase – which never reached past 65 mph, per the report.

The spike strips popped both passenger side tires at the intersection of Highway 278 and the Highway 27 bypass.

Chicas Mendoza stopped in front of the Polk County Water Authority, and then refused to get out of the car. Police pulled her out, but she continued to resist being cuffed and was finally detained.

Police suspected she might be under the influence per the report, but other than bloodshot eyes they did not have any other evidence of her intoxication.

Chicas Mendoza remained in custody as of this posting on a $4,000 bond on misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain lane, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving without license on person and obstructing law enforcement officers.
