A Rome woman remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set after she was initially taken into custody for warrants out of other counties, but ended up being found with various drugs on her person after being woken up in front of a Rockmart convenience store, according to reports.
Polk County Police noted the arrest of Amanda Darlene Day, 38, of 20 B Lynn Ave., Rome, on Sunday afternoon when she was found outside of the BP near the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 278 around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 28. She told police when woken after being reported for loitering outside the store that she was waiting for a ride, and fell asleep while her phone was charging.
Clerks told police that she was told to leave before, but had come back to wait for her ride.
When she told officers her name, they ran her information through state and national databases and found that she had warrants for her arrest in Floyd and Gordon Counties. When cuffed and while being patted down, she admitted to having a glass pipe in one of her pockets. When officers pulled it out, they suspected that methamphetamine was still inside and went searching further through her belongings.
Inside of Day’s purse, police found a hypodermic needle she admitted to using to inject heroin, plus a pill bottle with various different medications inside including methadone, methylin, methyphenidate, clonazepam, alprazolam, promethazine and escitalopram.
Police collected all of this and took her into custody on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges, and for loitering.
After being taken to jail, Day then told police she had additional drugs on her person she forgot to tell them about while being patted down. Police located another needle in her bra which field tested for having heroin inside, and a small bag of methamphetamine.
Day is being held as of this posting on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, 3 counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime, 45 counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, 30 counts of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, 3 counts of possession of dangerous drugs and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent. She also faces 81 counts of drugs not in original container, along with loitering or prowling.
