REPORT: Rockmart business owner jailed on aggravated assault, obstruction charges

Tina Darlene Lanier

A Rockmart business owner was taken into custody on Tuesday following an altercation with her daughter and Polk County Police officers, according to reports.

Polk County Police arrested Tina Darlene Lanier, 60, of a Rockmart address, after officers were called out to her home late Tuesday night, March 14, 2023, after 911 got a call about trouble happening at the address.

When they arrived, they found Lanier’s daughter in the driveway and she was coming out of the front door. Police ultimately had to separate Lanier and her daughter to determine what happened.

Per the report, her daughter alleged the pair got into an argument that turned physical after she announced she was moving out. Lanier was then alleged to have slapped her, then choked her hard enough to leave visible nail marks on her neck. Lanier’s daughter told officers she pushed her mom off of her by the neck as well.

Lanier had claimed her daughter was the aggressor, but she had no visible marks on her when officers were questioning the pair separately about what happened. Officers noted that she admitted to have been drinking on Tuesday evening, and that her daughter was a “problem child.”

After hearing both stories, Lanier told police she was going back inside her home. While this was happening, a witness came up to police and told them she saw what happened. Police determined with two statements and Lanier attempting to obstruct officers in their duties by heading back inside, they had enough to charge her.

Lanier attempted to get away from being cuffed by police, and “she snatched her right hand out of (an Officer’s grasp) and swung her body as well as her hand back toward myself and (the second officer who was holding her.)” Additionally, she “continued to be hostile and belligerent toward all three officers” and questioned why she was being arrested.

Officers told her she was being charged with felony aggravated assault, and three misdemeanor counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers.

She remained in custody as of this posting without bond set on the felony and misdemeanor charges in the Polk County Jail.

Lanier, the owner of Now and Then Antiques in downtown Rockmart, will get to see a judge today about bail being set.
