Polk County Police arrested a man in a driveway on Friday evening after a short chase in Cedartown, according to reports released this morning.
Officers arrested Jonathan Dewayne Timms, 40, of a Cedartown-area address, on Friday at around 7:30 p.m. after two officers spotted him driving in a 2000 Acura and knowing that he had a suspended license. Police began to follow him on Noyes Street near the EMS Station where they were parked at the time and Timms sped up.
Reports stated that he crossed Philpot Street, continued up Noyes on the wrong side of the roadway and “traveling well above the posted speed limit and what would be reasonable and safe for a residential area.”
Police turned on their lights at this point and Timms kept going, running the stop sign at Noyes and Highland Avenue as he turned right and then went a short distance before pulling into a back alley and driveway.
Timms was ordered out of the car and was taken into custody without further incident.
While searching his car before being towed, one of the officers chasing him found an amount of suspected methamphetamine in the center console.
He was booked into the Polk County Jail without further incident.
Timms remains in custody on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanors for failure to yield for authorized emergency vehicle, a seatbelt violation, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to maintain lane, failure to yield after stopping at stop sign, failure to obey stop sign, and driving while license withdrawn.
He remained in custody as of this posting without bond set.
