Report: Off-Duty cop spots man with warrants later found with drugs

More than two ounces of marijuana and methamphetamine were taken off of a man spotted by an off-duty police officer walking down the street he knew had warrants, according to Cedartown Police reports.

Officers arrested Daniel Lee Corn, 42, of a Johnson Lake Road address in Cedartown on Friday evening after the off-duty officer called into an on-duty colleague to report they saw Corn walking down Main Street in the area of Ellawood Avenue.

Police knew Corn from previous encounters and as soon as the officer found Corn he immediately took him into custody at the intersection of Clyde Drive and Russell Street.

As the officer waited for confirmation of the warrant, he noticed a plastic baggie sticking out of the corner of Corn’s pants pocket, and when he was questioned about whether he had anything illegal on him.

Corn admitted that he did, and when searched officers pulled two baggies of methamphetamine and a mason jar with more than two ounces of marijuana found within as well. They additionally found three bags of needles and a digital scale.

He was taken onward to jail without further incident, where he remains as of this posting.

Corn faces multiple felony charges of two counts of possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of marijuana, possession of tools for commission of a crime, and misdemeanor charges of theft by taking and possession of marijuana.

His bond was set at $50,000.
