A Dallas man was tased by Polk County Police this past Friday after he tried to flee on foot from a traffic stop, and was found with drugs in his vehicle and in the parking lot after he tried to ditch suspected narcotics in the parking lot as well.
Per Polk County Police reports, officers arrested Tanner Joe Ledbetter, 25, of 100 Pompas Court, Dallas, (listed in jail reports as 61 Ivey Meadow Drive, Dallas,) on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after he was first spotted driving erratically after pulling out of the Polk Motel onto Atlanta Highway, and continued onto Highway 278 where he narrowly missed hitting another vehicle.
After making a u-turn to head back westward and toward Rockmart, Ledbetter was in the process of pulling over for police at the gas station at Coot’s Lake Road when he jumped from the car and began to flee on foot.
Police ordered him to stop, and after continuing onward into a grassy area around the gas station police used a taser to end the pursuit. After being checked out by EMS, having the taser probes removed and his “agitated state” he was placed into the back of a patrol vehicle without further incident.
Police tried to question Ledbetter at the scene, but he refused to cooperate.
The officer who originally gave chase recovered the suspected narcotics from the parking lot, then searched Ledbetter’s vehicle where he found a backpack in the driver’s floor board with “three plastic bags of suspected marijuana,” then also found additional contraband including scales used for weighing drugs with suspected meth and marijuana residue on them, three “smoking devices” and a grinder.
Other occupants in Ledbetter’s vehicle who had stayed put during the footchase were released without any charges filed against them, per the Polk County Police report.
Ledbetter was taken to jail without further incident and remained there with a $13,500 bond.
He was charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of marijuana.
Misdemeanor charges included improper lane change/usage, obstructing law enforcement officers, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving while license suspended or revoked, and possession and use of drug-related objects.
