Daniel Mascote Reyes

Bond was not set for a Rome man who was found walking down the middle of Highway 27 on Friday morning, according to Polk County Police reports.

Daniel Mascote Reyes, 27, of 8 Piedmont Ave., Rome, was taken into custody by Polk County Police on Friday morning, July 15, just after 9 a.m. after attempts to get the man to cooperate when police were called out to investigate a man walking down the middle of Highway 27 near the intersection of Adams Road, right at Meadow Lakes Golf Course.

Police arrived on the scene around an hour before that and found Reyes in the middle of the roadway and driver’s having to swerve around him to avoid turning the incident into a horrible tragedy.

The first officer on the scene got Reyes to get out of the roadway, and along with a second officer who arrived attempted to get more information about what was happening. Police reported that based on his behavior, stance and dilated pupils, they believed he was on some kind of drug. He refused to give officers his name, and then asked for EMS to come to the scene.

When medical personnel arrived, he refused to give his name to the crew as well who checked him out.

After nearly an hour, police decided they were going to take Reyes into custody and transport him to jail. Police later identified him while he was being searched and found his wallet along with some cash, both of which were returned to him before he was processed at the Sheriff’s Office.

He remained in custody on charges of reckless conduct, obstructing EMTs and obstructing law enforcement officers. All are misdemeanor charges.
