
A man wanted out of Kansas on a forgery charge was arrested on Wednesday evening after he was found sleeping in the bushes on the Silver Comet Trail by Polk County Police, according to reports.
Victor Ray Nicks, 62, of a Springfield, Missouri address, was taken into custody on a warrant hold for a forgery charge on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. while an officer was conducting patrol and spotted him near the trailhead.
Nicks told police he was riding his bicycle home along the Silver Comet Trail from Atlanta all the way back to Missouri when he was found near the trailhead at Hardin Road by Polk County Police sleeping in bushes. When approached and asked for his identification, he complied.
He told police he was using the trail to ride from Atlanta back toward his home in Missouri.
Once police learned he had a warrant for forgery out of Kansas, a hold was placed for his arrest, he was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of Nicks found he was a registered sex offender out of Missouri after a 1980s conviction. No immediate information was found about the forgery charge.
Nicks remained in custody without bond set on the out-of-state warrant.
