Report: Man caught with stolen generator

Mitchell Nora Bryan

A man was arrested and charged with burglary and the generator he took was returned back to the owner from his home on Tuesday afternoon, according to Polk County Police reports.

County officers arrested Mitchell Nora Bryan, 23, at his Vinson Mountain Road home on Tuesday after police were called out around 1 p.m. to a burglary report near the intersection with Pleasant Hill Road to one of the trio of newly built houses.

An officer was flagged down by a man in a truck, who told officers his father called in the burglary report and stated a generator was taken and they had photo evidence of it being hauled across the street to Bryan’s home on Vinson Mountain Road.

When officers pulled into the house, they found Bryan’s girlfriend with their dog, and shortly after Bryan came around from the back of the house in the same clothing the suspect in the photos from cameras around the new construction caught taking the generator.

Bryan appeared confused by officers being at his home, and the report indicated officers had to threaten him with being tased before he got to the ground and was taken into custody. Once the situation was explained, Bryan’s girlfriend retrieved the generator and turned it over to police. They gave it back to the owners without further incident.

Initially Bryan denied any wrongdoing and told police that a friend took the generator and left it at his home before he fled, and would only admit to being over in the new houses because he needed to use their power.

When presented with the fact that cameras caught him red-handed, he ultimately confessed to the theft.

Bryan told police that “he was having a hard time and trying to provide power for his household” as his reason for taking the generator, the report stated.

He remained in custody as of this posting without bond set on a felony charge of burglary in the second degree.
