Local officials noted that Piedmont Highway near the intersection of Lumpkin Road west of Cedartown caused hours of roadway closure on the main route between west Georgia and east Alabama, per Polk County Police.
According to Police Chief Kenny Dodd, a large box truck overturned after leaving the roadway and rolling into the wood line on Piedmont Highway around 6 a.m.
The driver of the truck was transported to Floyd Medical Center for treatment, but no immediate word was available on the extent of the driver’s injuries.
Per Dodd, the roadway just reopened for regular traffic just minutes ago at 12:51 p.m.
Weather caused some delays in being able to clear the roadway.
