Stevie Chanel Shanks

Polk County Police had difficulty with a woman who had more tricks than treats for officers during Halloween, according to reports.

Stevie Chanel Shanks, 39, of a Cedartown address, was booked into custody on a misdemeanor public drunkenness charge by Polk County Police following an incident on Halloween night on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

Per PCPD reports, Shanks initially encountered officers when dispatched on a call for a reckless driver who was reported to have been sick outside with the door open to their vehicle near the intersection of Oakwood Drive and Perry Street around 7:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they found Shanks intoxicated from either alcohol or drugs and severely ill, and helped her until emergency personnel arrived from AdventHealth Redmond EMS.

After being taken by ambulance toward Polk Medical Center due to her condition, EMS called for help from the same PCPD officials who initially stopped with her after Shanks became “hostile” during the ride to the hospital. Shanks calmed down and eventually made it to Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center.

Then over an hour later, PCPD were again called out after Shanks walked away from the hospital. She made it to Kelly Road, where she walked up to a porch and told a local resident she had just left the hospital.

Polk County Police due to her condition determined she had to be under the influence of some kind of substance and took her into custody without any further incident.

She was booked and later released from custody on the misdemeanor charge on a $500 bond.
