REPORT: DUI driver found with minors in car and joint in ashtray facing several charges

A Rockmart man was booked and later released on charges after he was found to be driving under the influence with children inside of the car, according to Polk County Police reports.

Seabon Reshard Middlebrooks, 42, of a Rockmart address, was booked into custody on Saturday night and later released on bond on multiple traffic violations following a traffic stop.

Per the report, Middlebrooks was spotted behind the wheel of a white Dodge Charger by Polk County Police when it made a left turn and failed to maintain lane on Highway 278 near the Coot’s Store, and when followed the officer watched it fail to maintain lane again.

He pulled into the Coot’s Store for a traffic stop, and when officers came up tot he car he found five people inside – including two juveniles.

Police noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside the car and noticed Middlebrooks had red eyes. They asked him to come out of the vehicle and when asked, admitted to smoking “earlier in the day.”

Officers ran Middlebrooks through field sobriety tests which he failed, and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle found a half-smoked joint and nothing else inside.

The car was turned over to the registered owner at the time of the incident.

Middlebrooks was charged with DUI – drugs less safe, two counts of DUI – endangerment of child under age 14, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, improper left or right turn, and failure to maintain lane.

He was released over the weekend on a $5,000 bond on the misdemeanor charges.
