Darlington School employee told police he didn’t stop because license suspended

A Cedartown man remained in the Polk County Jail with no bond set after he admitted striking a school bus stop sign while it was stopped and then fled the scene to continue onto work, according to Polk County Police reports.

Dallas Lacie Folsom, 30, of 122 Pettit Road, Cedartown, was jailed on misdemeanor charges on Wednesday for failure to stop for school bus loading or unloading, hit and run; duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident, failure to report accident with injury/death/damage, and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Per the report, police were called out to Johnson Lake Road near the intersection with Heard Road just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4 after a Polk School District school bus was struck while stopped by a man later identified as Folsom in a truck, knocking off the school bus stop sign in the process and the truck’s mirror as well.

The school bus driver told police it wasn’t the first time they had seen the gray pickup truck do this. The report stated the driver said it was a daily occurrence for the truck to pass.

No injuries of any kind were reported due to the hit and run incident, the report stated.

With a description of the truck, police were able to track down the driver after some investigation to Folsom, and after taking with a family member they were able to find him at his job at the Darlington School in Rome, where Rome Police caught up with Folsom.

The report stated that Folsom was waiting outside of the school for police and told the Polk County officer who came along that “he did not stop because his license was suspended.”

Police took pictures of the damage to his truck as well, and Rome Police carried Folsom to the county line where Polk County Police took him into custody for the hit and run charges without any further incident.

He remained in jail as of this posting with no bond set.
