Polk County Police with the help of modern technology tracked down a stolen all-terrain vehicle that disappeared from Calhoun, according to reports.
An Apple AirTag gave police the exact location on Knox Mountain Road in Rockmart to where the owner claimed a 2023 CFMOTO UFORCE 1000 Side-by-Side was taken after being stolen from a job site on Thursday, August 29.
Later that night, police showed up to the home of Casey Jacobs, 39, and first encountered another individual on the scene who claimed the vehicle showed up earlier in the evening, and had no idea about it.
Jacobs attempted to flee to a second floor of the residence when officers arrived to question him, but ultimately he came out to talk to police about why he had the stolen vehicle.
Jacobs claimed that a “friend” – who he couldn’t give a name or address for to police – had asked him to take the Side by Side to clean up and fix. The “friend” didn’t provide a key, so he had to push it onto his trailer, Jacobs claimed.
Police learned he had a warrant for larceny out of Bartow County during his arrest.
Jacobs spent a day in jail before he got a $6,000 bond for his release.
The vehicle was later towed from the property after being recovered.
