Railroad workers will be out in Cedartown on next week to undertake repairs on a crossing that is well used, according to city officials.
City Manager Edward Guzman on Monday night reported to the City Commission that officials from CSX will be closing down the West Avenue railroad crossing between February 22 and February 23 for much needed repairs.
The crossing – which sees thousands of drivers crossing it on a daily basis – doesn’t yet have set hours for when it will be closed.
Guzman said in follow-up the city is hoping to get additional information from the railroad about the closure before it arrives next week.
The closure will require a detour around West Avenue for drivers who are used to having it as their main route of travel. Canal Street from South Main to Adamson does provide the best option for drivers going to and from Alabama Highway, Prior Station Road and Highway 100 North. Drivers who need to get to areas of West Avenue on each side of the crossing can use North 2nd Street to cut through on one side of tracks, and Furnace to Charles to South Cave Spring Street on the other side of the tracks.
Check back for an update on official closing times when it becomes available.
