A Cedartown woman remained in jail over the weekend and is being held on bond on multiple charges after she was involved in a domestic incident believed to be fueled by crack cocaine use, per Polk County Police reports.
Officers arrested Kimberly Louise Norton, 41, of a Cedartown address, after they were called out around 1 a.m. on Friday morning, October 21, to a Huntington Road address over a domestic incident.
Norton was found by officers being held in a bear hug by a relative and struggling to get free, and when police let her go and saw that she had slashed the relative’s arm with a kitchen knife they decided to take her into custody.
Police were forced to physically restrain Norton on the ground when she tried to run from the kitchen, and took her out to the patrol vehicle as she “was screaming and yelling things that made no sense and it was obvious that she was under the influence of certain narcotics.”
When officers returned to family members and Norton’s boyfriend, they got the rest of the story. Police were told that Norton was reported to have smoked crack cocaine just an hour before her arrest, and that she was living in the camper behind the house and asked her boyfriend for money.
When he refused to give her any, she threw a brick at him. When he ran into the house to report what happened, she followed and was trying to bust the door down to the room where boyfriend and relative were talking.
Attempts to calm Norton down were met with a “freak out” at which point the relative grabbed Norton into a bear hug, she somehow got a kitchen knife and slashed at his forearm.
Police also were taken to the camper and shown were Norton was alleged to have smoked the crack cocaine earlier, and found the pipe.
Norton remained in jail on an $18,000 bond as of this posting.
She faces charges of felony aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, elder abuse and a misdemeanor for obstructing law enforcement officers.
