Police: Pair spotted leaving Rome Plow early Saturday jailed on drug, other charges

A pair who were spotted leaving Rome Plow in a car just after midnight on Saturday were jailed and remained in custody over the holiday weekend after they were found with drugs during a traffic stop, according to reports.

Polk County Police arrested William Austin Reynolds, 70, of Cedartown and Jessica Leanne Perez, 22, of Cedartown, were both stopped just after 12:15 a.m. when they were spotted leaving the Rome Plow parking lot well after closing time.

Officers stopped them at the intersection of 7th Street and Slusser Avenue, and then began to question the pair about what they were up to, and requested their licenses. Perez in the opinion of police was reported to be suspicious about what she had in her wallet, and tried to hide something from the officer.

Police ultimately got ahold of the wallet after some discussion about whether they had seen a plastic baggy within, found five pills within. When police told her to get out of the car and tried to cuff her, she tried to “push it behind the passenger seat as to hide it from officers.”

Officers grabbed her to keep her from hiding evidence, and she tried to pull away and “hide the items she was stuffing.” Police forced Perez to the ground, cuffed her and sat her in the back of a patrol vehicle.

Police waited for a female officer to come and search Perez properly, and Reynolds criminal history was checked through state and national databases. He had warrants for his arrest, and was taken into custody without incident.

When finally searched, Perez was found with marijuana and pills in her pockets. Police later found the glass pipe she was trying to hide in the car. After being dropped off at the jail, officers found a baggie of suspected meth they suspected Perez tried to hide as well.

Perez faces multiple charges including felonies for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession with intent, two counts of tampering with evidence, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and crossing the state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent. She also faces misdemeanor charges for sale, manufacture, deliver or possess dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana, and obstructing law enforcement officers.

Reynolds only faced charges on failure to appear warrants.

Both remained in custody waiting for bail to be set as of this posting.
