Polk County Police arrested four people on Irwin Street in Cedartown after an early Thursday traffic stop that ended when police followed a truck with a broken brake light and tag light and watched as a passenger made a methamphetamine sale, according to reports.
Additionally, one suspect tried after being cuffed and put into a patrol vehicle to flee the scene on foot, the report added.
Juan Christopher Rocha, 28, of 785 Berry Road, Cedartown; Teresa Jane Langston, 22, of 953 Berry Road, Cedartown; Savannah Cheyenne Shirey, 22, of 624 Branch Road, Cedartown and Travis Allen Crunkelton, 21, of 841 Puckett Road, Silver Creek, were all taken into custody by Polk County Police around 1:30 a.m. when police stopped all four shortly after watching Rocha, a passenger in the truck, make a handoff of suspected drugs while taking cash with him in the process from Langston.
Police had first spotted the truck on Main Street during the early morning hours with the broken tag and brake lights, but chose to follow instead of pull the truck over immediately.
After watching the transaction and stopping the truck, the reporting officer additionally ordered Langston to stick around. Additional backup arrived, and a search of the area where the truck had pulled up to Langston yielded a “large bag of suspected methamphetamine” on the ground where Langston stood next to a trash can during the deal.
Rocha told officers that he had only been collecting a $60 debt at the time before the drugs were found. Additionally, police ran all of the names through state and national crime databases and found that Rocha had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court in Carrollton on other charges.
Per the report, all four were taken into custody. No one claimed ownership of the methamphetamine, and so all parties were charged. Additionally, police later found two tablets of Alprazolam inside the truck, and an open container that Crunkelton claimed was his beverage.
After all four were cuffed and placed into patrol vehicles, the reporting officer noted that Crunkelton somehow was able to get his arms from behind his back to the front while he was still inside the back of the car, and was able to get the door open before officers noted and were able to keep him from escaping their custody.
Police weighed the methamphetamine when returning to the station and reported that it was an 8.4 gram bag of the drug.
After all was said and done, police ultimately charged Rocha with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent, and probation violation, and is being held with bond denied as of this report. He additionally still faces the failure to appear warrant in Carrollton.
Langston was being held on a $9,000 bond on two felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and tampering with evidence, and a misdemeanor charge of abandonment of dangerous drugs. She was still in jail as of this posting.
Shirey, who was driving during the incident, was also being held on a felony charge of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, along with misdemeanor charges of drugs not in original container, no operating brake lights/signals, tag lights required and mirror requirements. She remained in jail as of this posting with a $6,200 bond in place.
Crunkelton had his bond denied as well and remained in jail as of this posting on felony charges of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and escape, and misdemeanor charges of an open container violation and drugs not in original container.
