A Rockmart man who was jailed was released by authorities after a new armed robbery occurred at the Handy Andy overnight, and now police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect and bringing them to justice.
Kerry Lee Adams was released from the Polk County Jail without prejudice after warrants were lifted this morning when Detective David Gowens reported that a new armed robbery occurred overnight.
Per Gowens, Adams has been completely cleared of any wrongdoing.
Police are now looking for a black male, between five-foot-six and five-foot-nine and a 160 to 180 pounds.
The suspect may be armed and considered dangerous. Police did not yet have a full description of his clothing.
Investigators realized immediately this morning they had the wrong man in Adams after reviewing the footage from the Handy Andy armed robbery. Adams arrest at the time was based on video footage and an eyewitness report, which proved to be inaccurate.
The armed robbery that Rockmart Police reported took place at 3:06 a.m. this morning at Handy Andy, located on North Piedmont Avenue at the intersection with Litchfield Street. It marks the fourth this month in Rockmart. Two have now occurred at the Marathon Gas Station on West Elm Street. An additional was also reported during this past week at the Mapco on Cartersville Highway.
The still-unknown suspect got away with $666 in the first two robberies.
Check back for additional details as they become available.
