POLICE: Elderly man uses remote control, bites victim during assault

Roger M Cantrell

An elderly man was jailed on Thursday after he struck a victim with a remote control, and then bit them when they were trying to fend off his attack.

Polk County Police arrested Roger M. Cantrell, 76, of a Cedartown address on Thursday, February 22, after reports stated he was involved in an argument that turned physical with the victim shortly before 4 p.m.

Reports stated that Cantrell was angry and believed the victim had stolen money from him and he wanted it back. The report additionally noted that Cantrell had pinned the victim to their bed, struck them with a television remote control, and then bit them when the victim tried to put their arms up to fend off the attack.

The victim was ultimately able to break free and run away from the residence and hide to call 911.

A witness confirmed the story of how the assault occurred, and told police they had no idea why Cantrell was angry and decided to attack the victim.

Cantrell did admit to the assault, further explained why he believed the victim stole money from them, and could not explain why he chose to bite them during the altercation. He was taken into custody without incident.

Cantrell remained in custody as of this posting on a $1,000 bond for the single charge of misdemeanor battery under the family violence act.
