Two different mail theft cases were solved in recent days after the Polk County Police were able to track down a stolen check and got a picture from a trail camera of the suspect, according to a release from the Polk County Police.
Doyle Lee Allmon of 246 Everett Drive, Rockmart, was arrested late last week and remains in jail on forgery, identity theft, theft, driving and probation violation charges on a $13,000 bond after it was found he stole mail from at least two different addresses in the Paris Mountain area.
One case on Pine Pitch Road began on July 3 when police were called out to a report of mail theft and forgery. Officers turned over the investigation to detectives who learned of a stolen check being cashed at a Cedartown gas station at a later date.
Upon follow-up, police reported that Allmon was captured on surveillance footage cashing the stolen check. In that case, Allmon was charged with: Identity Fraud, Forgery in the Third Degree, Forgery in the First Degree, and Theft by Deception.
Meanwhile, police connected the one mail theft with another reported on July 20, and it came with a picture of Allmon alleged to be in the act pulling up to the mailbox itself.
Police reported that last week, officers responded to a Paris Mountain Road address on another mail theft case. This time, the deed was caught on a trail camera and the victim turned over pictures from a trail camera of what happened. Police additionally posted that photo online last week asking for the public’s help finding the maroon 1997 Dodge Ram and the suspect within. The release stated that detectives located Allmon, and that “a short time later, the registered owner (Allmon) was arrested on unrelated narcotics charges.”
Allmon was interviewed, and then detectives got a search warrant for his truck, and then were able with additional surveillance footage to determine his alleged guilt. Once arrested, they found two additional stolen checkbooks on his person.
He remains in jail on felony charges of first and third degree forgery, identity theft fraud, theft by deception and probation violation. He also was charged with a pair of misdemeanors for theft by receiving, along with driving without a license, no insurance, expired registration and driving while license suspended or revoked.
“We would like to thank the citizens of Polk County for their assistance in this matter. We strongly encourage the public to consider implementing surveillance footage at their residences, due to the fact that it increases the solvability factors of their case. We encourage everyone to document serial numbers, as well as maintain a watchful eye for suspicious activity,” the statement on Allmon’s arrested added.
