PCPD: Woman found asleep in car at Coots Store charged with drug possession

Jessica Shumaker

A woman was found asleep behind the wheel on the night of New Years Day in a store parking lot and later charged with drug possession, according to reports.

Jessica Shumaker, 35, of a Rockmart address, was found asleep by police behind the wheel following a 911 call to the Coots Store.

She woke up finally when police knocked on the window once they arrived, where they found her behind the wheel of a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.

Per the report, Shumaker stepped out of her pickup and was found by police to have several tablets of hydrocodone – including a half of one – plus a tablet of ecstasy in the shape of a “kitten and covered in white dust.” Police also found a .380 Ruger pistol in her possession that was loaded, and it was taken and placed into evidence.

She was not charged for the firearm possession.

Police arrested Shumaker for the drugs she was found with and took her onward to jail, but before going she admitted to having a meth pipe in her pocket as well.

No other drugs were discovered at the time and the meth pipe was disposed of on scene, but once at jail she was found to have additional meth in another pocket in her jeans.

She was released on a $20,000 bond on Thursday.

Shumaker was charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, along with charges for possession of a Schedule I and Schedule II controlled substance.
