The driver of a car died this evening from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle wreck with a Polk County Police Officer.

County Police officials reported that one of his officers was transported to Atrium Health Polk to be checked out by medical personnel, and the other driver was carried to a Rome-area hospital sometime around 7 p.m.

Sadly, those injuries were fatal per the Polk County Coroner’s Office. They have not yet released the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

County Police officials said Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident as the lead agency. Whenever an officer is involved in a collision, the GSP usually take over as the investigating agency to determine what happened.
