
A Cedartown-area man was booked on theft warrants after he was accused of taking a big screen TV that wasn’t his and pawning it, according to Polk County Police reports.
Matthew Tyler Hightower, 30, of a Cedartown-area address, took a 70-inch television that the owner left behind when splitting up with the accused suspect was pawned, even though it was under contract with Rent-a-Center.
The owner of the TV complained to officers that the TV was among belongings left behind in mid-November, and when they went to collect it and other items found the TV was gone.
After investigating on their own, the victim of the theft told officers the 70-inch Skyworth TV was taken to City Pawn in Cedartown. Paperwork showed that the television under contract with Rent-a-Center proving ownership.
County Police took out warrants for Hightower’s arrest. He faces misdemeanor charges of theft by taking and theft by deception after being booked into the Polk County Jail by the Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
Hightower was still in custody as of this posting on a $2,000 bond.
