PCPD: Man fled from officers alleged to have abandoned fentanyl near Burton’s Store

Police caught up with an Aragon-area man on Monday after he fled from officers on Saturday after officers attempted to stop him walking on Collard Valley Road and was charged with drug possession, per a PCPD report.

Timothy Ray Waddell, 60, of an Aragon address, was arrested early Monday morning by Polk County Police and faces multiple drug and other charges after he was initially reported for a criminal trespass charge, according to officers.

Police arrived to the area to find Waddell on July 15 just after 9 p.m. and attempted to stop him. As he matched the description provided to 911 by the complaining caller, officers wanted to talk to him about what was going on. Instead, Waddell was reported to have begun to dig into his pocket, and told police “I’m not going to jail.”

He then fled into the woods on Saturday night, and officers lost him. A K-9 officer from Rockmart Police who was on duty was brought out to attempt to track Waddell, but not even the nose of K-9 Gena could find him during the late night search.

The pup however found something else that ultimately lead to Waddell’s drug charges. While walking back to patrol vehicles, Gena sniffed out two baggies that were picked up by officers off the ground. One contained suspected methamphetamine, and the other suspected fentanyl.

Police noted that based on where Waddell was reported to have been trespassing, the direction it was found and the fact that they were still clean from being in his pocket, they must have been his drugs.

Officers collected the drugs and sought warrants for his arrest at the time, and later caught up with him early Monday morning, July 17 by Polk County Police.

No report about that arrest was immediately available.

Waddell remained in the Polk County Jail with bond denied on felony drug charges including two counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. He was also charged with felony criminal trespass.

Additional misdemeanor charges for two counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers were also taken out against him.
