PCPD: Homeless man jailed for loitering at Big Spring Park, giving officers fake name

Richard Thomas Trahan

Polk County Police took a man into custody on Tuesday after he was found in Big Spring Park in Cedartown in the middle of the night and attempted to lie about who he was, according to a report filed on Wednesday morning.

Officers arrested Richard Thomas Trahan, a 31-year-old homeless man, after they found him just after 1 a.m. in Big Spring Park who didn’t want to talk to officers after he was found on city property after dark.

PCPD asked for his name and he tried to give a fake one, but the officers who approached him had previous dealings with Trahan and gave him a second chance to admit who he was.

Instead, he lied again and was immediately taken into custody.

Police searched around Trahan but found nothing illegal around where he was found in the park. When he was searched at the Polk County Jail, police found a black baggie on him and Trahan admitted it was methamphetamine.

Trahan faces charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and crossing state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent, along with misdemeanors for loitering or prowling and giving false name, address, or birthdate to law enforcement officer.

Trahan is being held on a $8,000 bond as of this posting.
