A woman who was driving westbound on Highway 278 into Cedartown was transported to a Rome-area hospital with injuries after a wreck in front of the entrance to Cedartown High School this morning blocked traffic in and out of town.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome reported that a student driving to school failed to yield when turning left at 8:13 a.m. this morning into the entrance of CHS, and was hit on the passenger side by the woman who was driving westbound into town.

The student wasn’t injured. Newsome said the injuries to the female were non life-threatening when she was transported from the scene, and was conscious and alert and able to talk to police.

Traffic is now cleared from the intersection, Newsome said.
