The City of Cedartown hosted a tour for officials to check out how the new Lankford Corner on the Silver Comet events center is shaping up as crews are getting closer by the day for an opening of a project a decade in the making.
The city posted a full release on social media this morning about the tour given to Georgia Department of Community Affairs Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Representative, Patrick Vickers (available below) in recent days.
Vickers got a chance to walk around inside and out of the new events center featuring some of the same modern design elements utilized in the remodeling of the Cedartown Public Library that opened back up in March.
DAPC President and CEO Chris Thomas, Jeannie Stooksbury and city officials joined Vickers for the tour.
City Commissioners voted on Monday to approve pricing for the new event center’s rental pricing for the public as crews have raced to finish the space over the past few months, but have on-and-off delays due to the weather.
A firm date hasn’t been scheduled for opening yet as of this posting, but it is expected to be completed and ready to go by the end of June.
Construction began in 2024 on the new Events Center at the corner of South Main Street and West Ware Street, anchored along the Silver Comet Trail’s path through downtown Cedartown and into neighborhoods to the east and west. Along with a completely open concept design utilizing more windows than walls, the new events center will accommodate up to 300 people inside at a time and features a kitchen space, outdoor spaces that can be incorporated with the indoors via roll up doors, and more.

Last week we were able to show off the progress of Lankford Corner at the Silver Comet to Georgia Department of Community Affairs Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Representative, Patrick Vickers.
The regional commission had a critical role in bringing the Lankford Corner dream into reality. Vickers serves as a vital entry point to help local governments and organizations like Cedartown navigate the DCA’s diverse web of programs and resources.
Joining Vickers on the tour was Chris Thomas, president and CEO of the Development Authority of Polk County, and Jeanie Stooksbury, administrative assistant for the DAPC, Cedartown City Manager Edward Guzman, and Oscar Guzman, director of Economic Development and Tourism for the City of Cedartown. Rainy weather has delayed the estimated completion of Lankford Corner, but as progress continues, officials look towards a summer grand opening.
Lankford Corner will be a striking facility designed to make heads turn. Situated along the Silver Comet Trail – a recreational asset that already pulls thousands of visitors to downtown Cedartown annually – Lankford Corner will be an impressive 6,000 square-foot structure of glass, brick, and exposed timber. The landscape and hardscape include streetscaping, a butterfly garden, an event lawn, and a corresponding asphalt parking lot – taking up a full acre of land.
The facility’s name honors the memory of the Lankford family, specifically Jim and Jean, stalwart supporters of small business, downtown Cedartown and the Silver Comet Trail. The Lankford family donated the land to the City of Cedartown with one condition: to be used for the greater good of downtown Cedartown.
As such, the Lankford Corner aims to be a premiere, state of the art event center, capable of hosting groups from 50 to 300-plus. Built-in, advanced technology would allow for businesses, industries, and other large organizations to hold trainings and business development seminars.
The building’s architectural features, catering kitchen, and storage room full of tables and chairs will provide stunning set ups for private parties such as weddings and celebrations. Landscaping and ample parking will allow for outdoor, family-friendly events, while the facility’s large doors, roll-up bays and towering glass panels make moving from outside to indoors a seamless transition.
