No more Blizzards in Cedartown with Dairy Queen up for sale

Anyone hoping for a blizzard after a ball game or an ice cream cake for a birthday party in Cedartown will need to plan to head to Rockmart instead as the Dairy Queen is closed on the western side of the county.

Cedartown City officials reported that the for sale sign went up earlier this month at the DQ on North Main Street. The building at 622 N. Main St. is listed for $800,000. It first went up for sale in mid-April 2022.

The latest owners listed were Marerah LLC out of Jonesboro. Polk Today went looking for additional info about the group, but as of this posting much wasn’t immediately available online.

Dairy Queen was one of the many fast food restaurants on Cedartown’s main drag, which narrows to locations for Bojangles, Taco Bell, Popeye’s, McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, Krystal’s, Captain D’s and Checkers. Jack’s will soon be joining the Cedartown marketplace on North Main Street. Cedartown recently added a restaurant across from Walmart on Highway 27 North as well.

The Cedartown location isn’t the only DQ that has closed in the area in recent years. Rome’s location near downtown closed in the past two years and is expected to be replaced by a Varsity location.

The Dairy Queen in Rockmart remains open for those who are seeking a sweet treat or lunch or dinner meals in Polk County and – at least for Cedartown-area residents used to getting their Blizzard or Sundaes – will have to drive eastward an extra 20 minutes.
