MLK Walk enters 20th year of march through Cedartown

Upcoming event set for January 20 marks milestone year

A chilly day remembering a civil rights leader is in store for marchers who are taking part in an event entering its 20th year next Monday.

The celebration and remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. is coming up on Monday, January 20 for the 20th annual MLK Walk through downtown Cedartown. Expect Main Street to temporarily close to traffic around 1 p.m. as marchers make their way from Rock Street up to Holloway Park in front of the historic Polk County Courthouse.

Assembly begins at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Rock Street and South Main Street for the walk.

This year’s event is being hosted by Glad Tidings, where Elder Tony Davis is pastor.

There is a slight chance of rain and snow showers coming up on MLK Day as another round of cold air from a polar vortex is heading southward by the beginning of next week. Look for temps to hit 38 on the thermometer next Monday, per the NWS Peachtree City forecast.

Expect to need to bundle up for this year’s event.

The first of the walks took place in 2005 and have been organized annually by Bernard and Letitia Morgan. Find out more by calling Bernard Morgan at 770-546-0725
