The Youth Working Together for a Speedy Advancement is planning to hold their upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in just over a week’s time in Cedartown.
The Sunday, January 16 MLK Jr. “Youth” Infusion and Community Service Rally planned for the afternoon will be taking place outdoors once again in 2022 as the organization’s Executive Director explained during the Cedartown Commission’s final meeting of 2021 to share plans for the day. This is the 19th gathering of the YWTSA for their MLK celebrations.
YWTSA’s Pamela Baker King explained that with the continued threat of the pandemic, their usual indoor celebrations are moving outside to ensure that proper social distancing is kept throughout the event planned from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. They’ll be in the parking lot across from Friendship Baptist Church at 321 MLK Jr. Boulevard, Cedartown.
This year’s theme is “Rise Up: Dream and Keep Moving!” Participants are asked to bring canned foods for needy families to be distributed in Cedartown for the event as well.
Books will also be given out free of charge to youth during the event as well.
Coy Frasier, who has been involved in YWTSA for several years, will be acting as the Mistress of Ceremonies for 2022.
Additional plans call for greetings from State Rep. Trey Kelley and City Commissioner Jessica Payton. She will also read the proclamation the City Commission passed during their December 2021 meeting as well.
During the Commission meeting, King thanked the Board for their continued support of the annual event and the YWTSA. The Youth
King reported that the event will be taking place rain or shine.
