Trammell Lawn Care LLC was out this week preparing the groundwork for the construction of a new soccer mini pitch scheduled for July 21, a project being funded for the most part by a grant received from Atlanta United.

That grant was announced in November 2022 for $75,000. City Manager Edward Guzman said with the city’s contribution of $50,000 toward the project, Musco will be completing the mini-pitch in the coming weeks for a cost of $125,000 in total.

Plans are to complete the field ahead of the fall sports season.

Trammell LLC was working on Wednesday, July 12 on grading work for the new mini-pitch soccer field in Cedartown at the Boys and Girls Club.

The new pitch is going up along the side of the Boys and Girls Club building in Cedartown. The grant was made possible through a partnership between the City of Cedartown, the Boys and Girls Club and Atlanta United.

The soccer club’s initiative to bring 100 mini pitches to urban areas ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Atlanta is part of an overall GA 100 initiative.

Smaller than the average soccer pitch, the 60 x 104 foot field is great for youth learning the game, and adults who seek to have faster plays and more opportunity for ball contact.

The county will be paving over the graded site, and once the actual playing surface is an acrylic-based top with a design planned to go along with bleacher seating and lights.
