Jaden Ryan Rice Snell

A man walking on the wrong side of Ruff Road in southeast Polk County was tased and found with a handgun in a backpack during his arrest after he tried to flee from an encounter with a Polk County Police officer on Friday morning before the holiday weekend began.

Jaden Ryan Rice Snell, 27, of a Old Vinson Mountain Road address, was arrested by an officer following a foot chase on Friday morning in the Ruff Road area. He was initially approached by an officer who pulled over for walking on the wrong side of the roadway, and while determining if he had any warrants for his arrest he took off.

The arresting officer did try to get him to stop several times, but ultimately was forced to use their taser to get Snell to comply.

While being searched, police found a glass pipe with suspected meth residue inside. He also admitted to police he ran because he was carrying a firearm and was a convicted felon. Police found a .22 caliber handgun that was fully loaded and a box of ammunition in his backpack.

He was taken to the Polk County Jail without any further incident after he was checked out by AdventHealth Redmond EMS personnel.

He remains in jail on felony charges including possession of a firearm by convicted felon or first offender, possession of tools for commission of a crime and four counts of probation violation. He also faces misdemeanor charges of pedestrian must walk on sidewalk/shoulder and obstructing law enforcement officers.

His bond was denied.
