Man remains behind bars after accused of pointing ‘pistol,’ threatening to shoot woman

Weapon turned out to be BB Gun, per Cedartown Police reports

A Cedartown man remained in custody to start the week after he was denied bond after making threats to kill several people to start the month of February, according to reports from the Cedartown Police Department.

Michael Jermain Hood, 48, of a Cedartown-area address, remained behind bars with bond denied as of this posting following his booking on the evening of Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Per the Cedartown Police report, Hood was confronted by officers and taken into custody after dispatchers received a report he was accused of pointing a pistol at several people. When he was first taken into custody, officers were unable to locate a firearm. Soon after a search around the area he was taken into custody, police found a silver pistol-style BB gun that was believed to be the weapon being used to threaten others.

Witnesses told police Hood had a victim on the ground and was threatening to kill her before they arrived and he tried to flee on foot from the scene, and had pointed what they believed at the time was a firearm and threatened them as well.

Another witness claimed “everyone was lying” and Hood did nothing wrong, per the report.

Hood was taken onward to the Polk County Jail by Cedartown Police without further incident following his Feb. 1 arrest.

He was booked on three felony counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm or knife by convicted felon or first offender, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, tampering with evidence and three misdemeanor counts of pointing or aiming gun or pistol at another.
