IS IT FALL YET?

Weather remains warm and dry, but changes are coming to Polk forecast

New Tropical Cyclone has Georgia in sights

The First Day of Fall came and went on Sunday, but it sure doesn’t feel like the season just yet as it has remained dry and seasonably warmer in Polk County over the past few days.

Days of temperatures above the 90 degree mark and with clear skies have left the area under a moderate drought conditions along with 30% of the state after weeks without rainfall have left the area under the annual rainfall amount for the year.

The dust however is soon to be turned to mud if a forecast for a new tropical cyclone holds true – along with a system pushing through in the coming days set to potentially bring additional rainfall as well as the forecast calls for wet weather for the rest of the week.

Along with that, meteorologists in Peachtree City have cooler temperatures starting to move into the area by midweek, with mid 80s in the forecast for a midweek high and to remain in the upper 70s to low 80s through the rest of the week.

Polk County Emergency Management Agency are keeping track of the current cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico – Tropical Cyclone #9 of the season – as it forms and is expected to evolve and move northward toward the Florida Panhandle and Georgia and the Tennessee and Ohio River valleys by Friday.

The storm – if it forms and becomes a Tropical Storm would become Gordon Helene (apologies, I miscounted. -KtE) – is on a path to impact the state by Friday after making landfall sometime during the overnight hours on Thursday/Friday based on current projections from the National Hurricane Center.

It is likely to become a storm by Tuesday.

Check back for updates as needed on the forthcoming forecast.
