The Cedartown Police Department is looking into who might be responsible for two shootings that occurred within the last 24 hours, according to Police Chief Jamie Newsome.
He said that no one was injured in either incident, one on Gibson Street and one on Central Street. Police conducted interviews with those who might have been potential targets, but have yet to come up with any solid evidence of who might be responsible.
The first shooting took place last night on Gibson Street, Newsome explained, and though several shots were fired. Cedartown Police were on the scene not long after shots were fired and reported to 911, but had no immediate leads.
A resident in the area who reported the incident to Polk.Today but wished to remain anonymous due to safety concerns said that they were out walking their dog when the shooting took place, and was narrowly missed by the bullets coming from both a car and the address that was shot at in a drive-by shooting incident.
Newsome said investigators were following up today on who might be responsible for that shooting.
He also reported a second shooting incident occurred just before the lunch hour on Central Street, in an incident that he said is unconnected to the first.
Again, officers responded quickly but were unable to catch any suspects before they fled. Those with information are encouraged to call the Cedartown Police at 770-748-4123 to report what they know.
Of note geographically, Central Street and Gibson Street run parallel to each other off of South Main Street and are a block apart.
The two shooting mark just the latest gun violence in Polk County and is the fourth in recent weeks in the Cedartown area.
Check back for updates on the incidents as they become available.
