HOMETOWN PHOTO: Poppy Girl at Post 12

A quick note about this Hometown Photo above, submitted over the weekend by Jim Carroll to be included in coverage from the American Legion Post 12’s ceremony honoring Veterans Day. (Available for subscribers here.)

Madelyn Farmer was on hand Friday morning at Post 12 to help out in taking up donations in trade for paper poppy flowers during the event. She’s the granddaughter of Post Commander Robert Furr and Pat Furr, president of the Auxiliary.

She was giving out the paper flowers after a $1 was given. The poppy is symbolic to wear on Veterans Day, a reminder of the poppies that grew over the battlefields of Belgium and France during World War I.
