Herbert Street property picked up by City of Cedartown

The City of Cedartown isn’t sure what will come of a property purchase approved by the City Commission on Monday night so far, but they are expecting that something will come of the new real estate now off the market in downtown.

City Commissioners held an executive session on Monday evening, July 10 after concluding most of their regular business to discuss the purchase, and came back out to approve buying the three lots that previously comprised of a historic home in downtown.

The lot has set empty for several years since a tragic fire took the life of Shirley Anne Richards more than five years ago.

The city purchased the trio of lots for $75,000, according to City Manager Edward Guzman.

Plans for what will happen next with the property aren’t yet finalized, Guzman said. It’ll be marketed for economic development purposes and he said the Downtown Development Authority will be involved in the next steps following the purchase’s approval for figuring out what’s next for the Herbert Street property.
