Tire Amnesty program also happening at Camp Antioch same day
Cedartown, Rockmart both have cleanup events for Earth Day 2023 celebration
Earth Day is coming up, and Keep Polk Beautiful has events planned and is encouraging the community to get out and take part during the weekend of April 22.
KPB Executive Director Randy Cook reported that two cleanups are happening in Polk County for Earth Day 2023, scheduled during the morning hours in both Cedartown and Rockmart.
The Cedartown cleanup will begin at 8:30 a.m. and volunteers are asked to gather at the tennis courts to take part. Look for efforts to take place around Peek Park and the banks of the stream alongside the park and running through the College Street neighborhood.
KPB will also be taking part in the cleanup at 8:30 a.m. at Seaborn Jones Park in Rockmart for their cleanup as well. Volunteers will gather in the park and go up and down Euharlee Creek and around downtown Rockmart for the event.
Earth Day 2023 will also be a Tire Amnesty Day being held at Camp Antioch from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
KPB notes that households can bring up to 4 tires – only cars and light truck tires, and they must be off the rim – to turn in for recycling. No commercial or tractor tires will be taken.
Cook also encourages everyone to take part in Earth Day cleanups.
“Residents in Polk County should get out and do something to help make our county a better place even if they can’t attend one of these events,” Cook said.
Earth Day began as a way to celebrate the achievements of the environmental conservation movement and bring the need to protect nature into the forefront at least one day a year, this year officially on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
The first one was held in 1970. Keep Polk Beautiful in the past decade has been involved in various cleanup efforts around the community. Those who want to get involved on a regular basis can contact Cook at rcook@cedartowngeorgia.gov.
