UPDATE:
Local officials this morning released the name of a Rome man who died in a wreck on Thursday evening in Polk County.
Jacob Pearson, 30, of a Rome address, died of the injuries he sustained in the wreck on the scene on Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a Jeep Cherokee driven by Samuel William Johnston, 83, of a Resaca address.
Johnston was turning left when Pearson’s motorcycle struck the right side of the Jeep.
Georgia State Patrol charged Johnston in the wreck with misdemeanors for homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield while turning left.
Pearson was booked into the Polk County Jail on Thursday, and was released this morning on a $2,000 bond.

Georgia State Patrol provided preliminary details on their investigation of a wreck on Highway 101 on Thursday evening that killed a motorcycle driver, according to their latest update.
GSP also charged the driver who is alleged to have caused the collision.
Officials from GSP reported that the driver of the motorcycle died of their injuries at the scene at Highway 101 and Dean Road near Aragon.
The wreck occurred around 6:15 p.m. when the driver of a Jeep Cherokee turned in front of the motorcycle while driving south on Highway 101, attempting to go left. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Jeep in the collision.
No other injuries were reported by GSP in their report. The name of the motorcycle driver was not yet released.
Charges were filed on Thursday against Samuel William Johnston, 83, of a Resaca address, for misdemeanors for homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield while turning left.
He remained in the Polk County Jail as of this update with no bond set.

Officials have confirmed tonight that a wreck on Highway 101 resulted in a fatality.
The Polk County Coroner’s Office confirmed one individual died in the collision that took place sometime between 6:30 and 7 p.m. on Highway 101 at the intersection with Dean Road.
More information is expected to be released about the individual pending notification of next of kin. The body will be going to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to undergo an autopsy.
The only details immediately available about the incident so far is that first responders from local law enforcement, fire and EMS responded to the crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.
Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation and additional information is expected sometime on Friday.
