Fatality reported in early morning Hwy. 27 incident

A second fatality involving a pedestrian in the Cedartown area in as many days was reported this morning as a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 27 North near Denton Road.

According to the Polk County Coroner’s Office, James Guice, 78, of Cedartown, died of injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle.

Police, Fire and AdventHealth Redmond EMS were all called out to the the area around 5 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, and found Guice between Denton Road and Oak Grove Road on the southbound side of Highway 27.

Polk Today has reached out to Georgia State Patrol for more information. The agency will be handling the investigation.

This latest incident comes less than a week after a Latoya Spurgeon was struck by a vehicle in Cedartown. She died as a result of her injuries in the early morning hours of April 12 after she was struck by a vehicle while in the middle of the roadway.
