Faithful gather for Celebration Sunday at First Baptist Church of Cedartown

Baptism opens up Sunday’s service for sanctuary’s renovations

Miracles come in all sizes, and for those gathered on Sunday morning, January 22, 2023, it was an easy one for the congregation to see.

Zoey Forston, 9, decided during the Sunday morning service that she wanted to give her heart to Christ and join the community of faith.

She held her nose and gave Dr. Christopher Moses permission to dunk her in the name of the father, son and holy spirit, and she rose from the waters cleansed of sins and reborn into arms of Jesus.

What a better moment to remind a congregation of the purpose of gathering in the renovated sanctuary space for Celebration Sunday at First Baptist Church of Cedartown. The hard work and dedication put in by members to bring the renovations together is meant to help grow the church for future generations to continue worshipping as one immediately pays off with the addition of one more soul saved.

Zoey, the daughter of Drew and Kristen Forston, is exactly the kind of member that First Baptist needs to ensure that it’ll continue to hold services on Sundays heading into the future. A connection to youth is part of the reason for renovations at First Baptist, which include new lighting for the chancel, the baptismal pool, sound improvements and projector screens among many others.

The renovation work is the first updates completed in decades to the sanctuary space, and is part of an overall revitalization of the church as it continues to evolve during the new century. But the physical space is only a representation of the community of faith, which is what really matters.

Dr. Moses reminded the congregation after Zoey’s baptism was completed was to glorify and spread the message of Jesus Christ.

“We are so blessed here at First Baptist to have what we have, but most of all what we possess is the good news that Jesus Christ came and died for our sins so that we might have life,” Dr. Moses said. “That is what we are about here as a church, and we want to just always lift him on high and we unashamedly preach Jesus and make sure that he always gets the glory.”
