
Mr. Emory Eugene Hughes, “Gene”, age 61 of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
He was born on October 13, 1963 in Polk County. He was the son of the late George Emory and Doris Faye Womack Hughes.
Gene was a graduate of Cedartown High School, Class of 1981. After graduation he and his father owned and operated Cedartown Glass and Radiator Company for 30+ years, recently Gene had the privilege of running the family business with his brother Tommy.
He was a faithful member and usher at Cedartown First Methodist Church, member of the Lions Club, and former member of the 50’s Club.
Gene loved his family and friends, along with supporting and cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs. He was an avid golfer, he loved the game and his golfing group, but most importantly loved playing almost weekly with his son for so many years.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mrs. Laurie Casey Hughes; son, William Emory Hughes; brother, Tommy Hughes (Ginny); father and mother-in-law, Bruce and Patsy Casey; brothers-in-law, Ron Casey (Dondra) and Stephen Casey; niece and nephews, Trey Hughes (Kelsey), Brooke Hughes Brinkley (Jason) and James “JB” Casey; and many other extended family members and friends.
A memorial service for Mr. Emory Eugene Hughes will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at three o’clock in the afternoon in the sanctuary of the Cedartown First Methodist Church with Rev. Britt Madden and Mr. Craig McDonald officiating. Music will be provided by the FMC choir, Mr. George Barton and Mrs. Leigh Ann Lundy.
The family of Mr. Hughes will receive family and friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from one o’clock in the afternoon until the memorial service hour at Cedartown First Methodist Church.
